Welcome to this month's blog posting,
enjoy the photos.
On the croft
Our geese as usual are joined at the wing and go everywhere together
and when it comes to bedtime they don't need telling and
make their way to their shelter
It's been a bit midgey of late and when the midges are out and about fashion goes out of the window !!
this is popular attire in the Highlands !
The warmer weather also brings with it jelly fish,
lots of them !!
These moon jellies are pretty with their purple rings
and these ones are harmless
but not so the larger lion's mane jelly fish
that will give you a nasty sting, steer clear.
This month is the 6th anniversary of Janette and I
swimming together in Loch Ewe every Sunday morning
regardless of the weather or temperature !
Thank you Janette
for being such a great mermaid !!
🏊🏊🏊🏊🏊🏊
Sunday mornings are brilliant
and our group keeps getting larger,
this month saw our largest group so far,
17 swimmers !
Now that the terns have finished their breeding season and have flown to warmer climates it's time again for a bit of pier jumping, when it's high tide,
get ready ..... 1, 2, 3 go
yehhhh !!!
Under the pier, reflections make wonderful patterns on the underside of the roof
Wilma loves making friends in the water
and out of the water
she laps up the attention
I love looking at footprints in the sand
to see who has been there a while before me,
in this case a very small person with their dad and family dog.

Poolewe has a beautiful, tucked-away beach,
perfect for an evening's singing and contemplation.

In May 2019 beavers were given protected status in Scotland.
Between May and December 2019
87 beavers ( a 5th of the population)
were killed legally under license in Scotland.
In July a conservation group "87 Beavers" set up an art exhibition to commemorate the deaths of these beavers
and to put pressure on the government
to relocate rather than kill these animals.
paintings, drawings, poems, models, photographs, collages.
Below is my poetry entry for the exhibition, if you would like to see all the wonderful entries see Facebook page - 87Beavers
or go to : 87beavers.org.uk
Beaver to the Firing Squad
You drove us to extinction once before,
preferring our soft brown pelts
upon your head and backs.
A sense of luxury felt.
You cut away our scent glands,
to add "vanilla" to your food
and fragrance to perfume,
to enhance your evening mood.
But we are more than that.
You killed and killed and killed again,
until we were no more.
Does your heart not sink
or your stomach churn
when you point your gun
and shoot your turn?
What joy in that?
You've brought us back again,
even given us your protection.
Then as we feel secure, under license,
you blast annihilation.
What sense is that?
We are but gentle creatures,
our aim as ecosystem engineers,
to ease your fires and floods and
create diversity as climate crisis nears.
Just ponder that.
June Purvis
Sadly the killing has just started again this season.
