June 2016

Strawberry moon over Loch Ewe
on the Summer Solstice

The Budapest Cafe Orchestra
made up of
Christian Garrick - violin
Eddie Hession - accordion
Adrian Zolotuhin - guitar, saz, domra
Kelly Cantlon - double bass

came to Aultbea Village Hall !!!!
as part of their tour.

An amazing night, full house
and had to turn people away as no more room.

They play folk-based music
inspired by the music of European gypsies.

There's lots about them on Youtube
if you want to see them
and hear what they sound like.

Thank you to West Coast Arts
for organising this performance

Off on an expedition with Janette and Janet
across Loch Ewe to the Isle of Ewe

A life on the ocean waves ...

we let Malcolm come too

I think Malcolm is directing the traffic
in this photo ?

Cormorants warming their wings in the sunshine,
taking no notice of us in the kayaks

A misty start

and then sunshine again

Spotted a few herons' nests in the trees

Also spotted lots of graceful, translucent moon jelly fish
enjoying the clear waters

These are very gentle creatures
and their stings cannot penetrate our skins

the purple coloured rings are their reproductive organs

Chain reflections .....

Our gosling, Tilly, helping out in the study,
while she's growing some proper outdoor feathers.

"I think I look like my grandfather"

Tilly's first venture into water

Doing a bit of yoga while her feathers are still growing

Our resident geese coming for their daily look
at the newcomer,
who has taken no notice of them at all.
Tilly doesn't realise that two of them are her parents
and the other is her fiance.

A fun photo of Janette's whippet, Storm,
swimming out to us wearing his life jacket

The June colours of Loch Ewe

Submarine racing in Loch Ewe

(only joking !)

A friend recently gave us a rare breed hen,
a cream legbar,
and she lays beautifully smooth, pale blue eggs for us .

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Like most of the animals on our croft
Lulu takes relaxing very seriously !
(this one's for you Elaine)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Aken and Katie came to stay for a few days with us again
and they obliged me with some lovely
photo opportunities.

Let sleeping horses lie

Rolling just for the fun of it

"You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours"

The grass is always greener on the other side

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wilma making it very clear that my beautifully soft throw
is so much better than her basket and towel
So tired that Wilma didn't have the energy
to get fully into bed
Wilma still in love with Radar
Docks can be a nuisance but
 the colours of some of the leaves
are really vibrant and beautiful
(author of The Power of Now)
ISBN 978-0-14-101782-2
Since buying this book I haven't had a chance to read it
because Malcolm is now reading it for a second time
and has barely put it down.
Hopefully I will get to read it soon.
